A Please Talk vigil will take place on campus on Tuesday 2nd November. We hope as many students as possible attend this vigil in aid of suicide awareness.

We will meet at 4pm at the Students’ Union to collect candles and posters, then make our way to the 2 gates for 4:45 and begin walking in to catch the attention of exiting traffic. At 5:45 we will all meet back in the Student Centre and hold a minute silence for all those who have died by suicide.

HeadsUp is a mental health promotion project which aims to contribute to suicide prevention efforts by providing timely, appropriate information and support to young people. The project commences in 2005. It provides a wide range of initiatives aimed primarily at 15-24 year olds. However there are a number of secondary targets that includes community groups, fathers and workplaces. HeadsUp is always looking for young people to volunteer with us to help make the project better. HeadsUp currently has a youth panel of ten volunteers who help steer the project and ensure that it is appropriate to the target group.

The Students’ Union is Located in the Student Centre between the Stables and ULSU Spar Shop.

ULSU is the representative body for 11,000 UL students.

Students automatically become members of the Union upon enrolment, and from that day on the five sabbatical officers (President, Welfare, Education, Campaigns and Services and Publicity and Publications Officer) as well as the part-time members of the Union`s Executive Committee do our best to represent and help you with any problems you may have during your time in college. ULSU represents you both within and outside the University, as well as providing you with services such as a fortnightly newspaper, monthly magazine, shop, graphics, welfare and academic advice and clubs and societies.

The Postgraduate Students’ Asociation / Cumann na nIarchéimithe is the representative body for postgraduate students in the University of Limerick. All postgraduate students in the University are automatically members of the Association.

1. The Role of the PSA is to represent postgraduate students (collectively and individually) in all matters relating to the postgraduate experience.
2. To provide a means of communication between postgraduate students and the academic community, the Universities administration, and other bodies concerned with postgraduate study.
3. To promote the development of a postgraduate ‘culture’ and community at the University and in both national and international forums.

5. To elect or nominate postgraduate students to representative committees, both within the University and elsewhere, where provision has been made for UL PSA representatives.

The Chaplaincy Offices are located in the CM corridor of the Main Building, around the corner from the Student Health Centre and next to Student Counselling.

Teach Fáilte in the Student Centre next to O’Mahony’s Bookshop is also a Chaplaincy Centre where you can drop in for a cup of tea and a chat.

The UL Chaplaincy works to meet the many and varied religious needs of a global university campus. It recognises that life at UL is a dynamic, ever-changing experience, which brings all kinds of new opportunities and challenges to students. The chaplains offer a non-judgemental listening ear and supportive presence to students and staff in times of rejoicing and in times of need as we accompany them on their life’s journey. We promote an open and caring ethos where diversity is respected for people of all faiths and none.

The Counselling Service is located in the CM corridor of the Main Building, around the corner from the Student Health Centre.

The Counselling Service is a professional psychological service available to students to assist them on their progress through University life, with all of its incumbent stresses and strains. Many personal decisions are made and problems solved though discussions with friends or family, a College Tutor or Director of Studies or a nurse, GP or chaplain. However, there are times when it may be right to seek help away from the familiar daily environment. The U.L. Couselling Service was set up in 1977 to meet just such a need.
